Princess Pistachio and Maurice the Magnificent – Marie-Louise Gay

Princess Pistachio and Maurice the Magnificent – Marie-Louise Gay, Pajama Press, (9781772780215), 2017

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4

What did you like about the book? Princess Pistachio loves her dog, Dog, But Dog appears to be the laziest dog ever, sleeping when not napping or eating. Dog is not even popular at Show-and-tell. When Pistachio sees a poster advertising for a “Talented, intelligent, beautiful dog to play starring role in a theater production” she takes Pistachio – who sleeps through the entire audition. But this is perfect as the part is for Sleeping Beauty. Dog, now Maurice, is a hit. Pistachio’s best friend, Madeline, feels left behind and left out from life with her friend. What can she do to get her back? I am a major Marie-Louise Gay fan so the illustrations done in India ink, watercolor, ink and colored pencils won me over immediately. Maurice is a very cute, lovable, lazy dog and the story is wonderful.

Anything you did not like about this book? I liked everything.

To whom would you recommend this book? Give this one to those who read the first book, Princess Pistachio, but also to those who have loved the Stella books also my Marie-Louise Gay.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Early chapter book

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Top third.
