Rating: 1-5: (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3
Genre: Comic book
What did you like about the book? In this comic book adventure, The Living Brain, a robot, threatens to reveal Spider-Man’s identity. Eager to get their hands on this information, a mob of Spidey’s enemies show up to try to get the robot. There is plenty of action as Spider-Man deflects the attacks of Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, Mysterio, and finally The Green Goblin. The text is geared toward early readers, but happily, it still conveys Spidey’s trademark snarky quips. The comic is in old-school style looking like the 1950’s and Peter Parker is in high school.
Anything you didn’t like about it? No.
To whom would you recommend this book? Recommend to second to fourth grade readers who enjoy graphic novels and comic book heroes. This could be a good offering for reluctant readers.
Who should buy this book? Elementary school libraries and public libraries.
Where would you shelve it? Shelve with Comic Books if you have them. Otherwise put with Graphic Novels.
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
