Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab

Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab, (9780062380883), Greenwillow, 2017

Format:  Hardcover

Rating:  1-5:  (5 star being excellent) 4

Genre: Dystopian

What did you like about the book? The action in this was great.  It started with a bang and then slowed down, but picked up and never let go for the last 200 pages.  I also love this world; the monster idea is so unique (which makes it hard to give reading recommendations for after!)  It also didn’t require a romance or a “be-all hero” trope.

Anything you didn’t like about it? Probably Kate.  I’m not the biggest Kate fan, but August is fantastic (and amongst my favourite characters ever) and the side characters are enjoyable as well.

To whom would you recommend this book? I would recommend this to fans of the first book, This Savage Song, or fans of dystopian books with monsters.  Maybe those looking for strong characters without romance.

Who should buy this book? Bookstores or libraries, where there are fans of the first book.

Where would you shelve it? Dystopian

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? If you have a love for Victoria/V.E. Schwab like I do, yes.  It’s a great follow-up to the first book, which left us wondering what happened to these characters.
