What did you like about the book? Children will be eager to read about Ella and Caleb Harrison, who help their parents run the Animal Magic Rescue Center. Each book begins with a two-page spread depicting the fictional shelter’s current web page and the animals available for adoption. With soft pencil illustrations throughout, early chapter book readers will be engaged and eager to find out what happens next. This title includes the usual mix of lost and found pets and pets needing new homes, including a rabbit named Beanie and a tiny puppy named Shadow.  A plot point involving the possible closing of the shelter by the town is carried through from previous titles and finally resolved.  The story ends happily for everyone involved, with just the right mix of fun, mystery, and a few gentle lessons about the responsibility of pet ownership.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Read Alikes? Recommend to early chapter book readers and animal lovers. Also recommend The Puppy Place series by Ellen Miles and Holly Webb’s Pet Rescue Adventures series.

Who should buy this book? Elementary schools and public libraries should consider this series.

Where would you shelve it ?  Early chapter books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  No.
