What did you like about the book? When asked what your favorite animal is, it’s usually a dog, cat, fish, but never a snail. By the end of this book, when asked the same question, I guarantee the answer this time will be snail. Escargot will win your heart. The clever drawings of Escargot capture all his personality. With his adorable blue and white striped shirt and red neckerchief, he looks the part of a Parisian dandy. Escargot states his two requests at the beginning of the book, 1. To be your favorite animal and 2. To get to the salad at the end of the book. Along the way he spouts off choice phrases in French as he tells you all about himself. By the end of the book, there is a delicious salad waiting for him, and also your new best friend.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about the book.

To whom would you recommend this book?  This is an excellent book for young children ages 3-5 and anyone who loves anything French.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries, school libraries.

Where would you shelve it ? picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  yes
