Porridge the Tartan Cat and the Bash-Crash-Ding – Alan Dapre, Young Kelpies/Floris Books, (9781782503569), 2017

Format: Paperback

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3.5

Genre: Animal fiction

What did you like about the book? Porridge the Tartan Cat stars in this latest offering of the series. He lives with the McFun family consisting of Grandad, Gran, Dad, Mum and the twins. There’s a lot going on here, each character involved in their own dilemma, which Porridge does his best to assist. There are not only a lot of illustrations but large descriptive words such as CRACK! Mewhoa and THUMP! that break up the words on the page making this very appealing to second and third graders mastering reading.

Anything you did not like about this book? Not a thing.

To whom would you recommend this book? Recommend to kids who like silly stories told from the animal’s point of view and accompanied by lots of illustrations.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Juvenile fiction

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
