Wizard of Oz -10 Minute Classics,  Retold by Maggie Blssom, Illustrated by Asha Pearse, Flowerpot Press, 9781486712212, 2017

Format: Paperback

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 2

Genre:  Classic, Children’s Picture book

What did you like about the book? The 10 Minute Classics successfully condensed “Wizard of Oz” simply, unfortunately lacking any suspense. The illustrations and whimsical art work were light-hearted and fun. The journey and emotional growth of Dorothy, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and Lion were outlined, for younger readers, with unique vocabulary words highlighted. It was a successful taste of a complicated classic.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I hope that a condensed simplified version of this classic accurately plants a literature seed for children to read the original when older.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Parents and children that enjoy our literary classics, and appreciate complicated literature.

Who should buy this book? Elementary school librarians, Middle school remedial reading teachers to encourage  classic literature

Where would you shelve it ? Classics, Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
