My Kite is Stuck! and Other Stories – written and illustrated by Salina Yoon, Bloomsbury Children’s Books, 9781619638877, 2017

Format: hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3

Genre: picture book

What did you like about the book? This is a cute little collection of short stories from Salina Yoon.  Duck, Big Duck and Porcupine have lots of fun together, whether it’s playing with their toys (which get stuck in a tree!), building a lemonade stand together or making new friends.  The illustrations are very cute, as are all of Yoon’s illustrations.

Anything you didn’t like about it?  There is nothing I didn’t like.

To whom would you recommend this book?  This is a great book for kids who are learning to read.  The words are simple and few, yet there are enough to challenge a beginning reader.  Some read-a-likes are “Duck, Duck, Porcupine” which is the first in this little series by Salina Yoon.  “The Good For Nothing Button” by Mo Willems is also very similar to this book.

Who should buy this book? Children’s libraries

Where would you shelve it? juvenile picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? no
