Genre: Picture Book

What did you like about the book?  In simple text, the reader is introduced to their pet dog: “Look at your dog sleeping…and listen to him snoring! Hey, sleepyhead, it’s time to get up! Do you want to help wake him? Call out his name and turn the page.”  The black text changes to red for the lines calling for an action: “Go on, give him a rub. A rub rub rub right on his belly.”  The line drawing illustrations depict a golden floppy eared dog with expressive eyes against the stark white background.  Children will get a kick out of playing with this pet dog and the text is simple enough for a beginning reader to decipher.

Anything you didn’t like about it?  No

To whom would you recommend this book?   This would be a fun choice for a beginning reader as well as for readers who enjoy interactive titles such as Press Here by Herve Tullot.  It would also be a fun choice for children awaiting a pet dog to practice with.

Who should buy this book?  Public Libraries and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Picture Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles? No
