Rating: 1-5 (5 is a starred review)  3

What did you like about the book? This version of Beauty and the Beast is based on the current motion picture using live actors. It is an abridged version and each page has a screen shot of the movie. For a child who has already seen the movie, this could be a nice way to introduce it in book form. Personally, I wasn’t crazy about the realistic version of the story as the characters can be scary to young children. It worked better in the animated version.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I didn’t like the photographs of the movie. Instead of action shots, there were single pictures of the characters on some of the pages, which left nothing to the imagination.

To whom would you recommend this book?  This is a good book for a child who loved the movie. It would be for children ages 5 and up.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries, school libraries.

Where would you shelve it ? picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  no
