My Pictures After the Storm by Eric Veille

My Pictures After the Storm by Eric Veille, Gecko Press, 9781776571048, 2017

Format: Board book

Rating: 1-5 (5 is a starred review)  2

What did you like about the book? On one page there are my pictures, and on the opposite page, there are my pictures after the storm, lunch, magic, the hairdresser. It is a clever book that draws on a child’s sense of humor and understanding of the world. Older children might enjoy the humor, but it would be a very limited audience of children who would culturally understand it.

Anything you didn’t like about it? The board book would appeal to older children – ages 7 and up and unfortunately having the format as a board book would turn older kids off to reading it. I also didn’t like how the words under each picture are written in cursive, so young readers will have a hard time decoding the words. It is translated from French and many of the words are obscure.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Children ages 7 and up will understand the humor.

Who should buy this book? Public school libraries.

Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  no
