Peekaboo Barn: A Lift-the-Flap Book/¿Quién está en el granero?: Un libro desplegable created by Nat Sims and the Night & Day team, illustrated by Nathan Tabor. Candlewick, 2017.  9780763693152

Format: Board Book

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 2

What did you like about the book? A bilingual English/Spanish board book with flaps to lift to discover which farm animal is making a sound, represented in English and Spanish onomatopoeias. Brightly colored digital illustrations with one or two flaps per page opening. May be useful for learning how Spanish speakers say animal sounds.

Anything you didn’t like about it? Each page opening has the exact same background illustration, with a small variation in the number of clouds in the sky. Why bother making an app into a book if the illustration is just a static background? The animals look like zombies with disturbing large black orbs for eyes.

To whom would you recommend this book?  I would not recommend this book, unless someone is crazy about the Peekaboo Barn app.

Who should buy this book? It is appropriate for day cares and public libraries, but is an additional purchase.

Where would you shelve it ? Board books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? no
