Bad Kitty Takes the Test- Nick Bruel

Bad Kitty Takes the Test– Nick Bruel, Roaring Brook Press, (9781626725898), 2017.

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 3

Genre: Graphic novel

What did you like about the book? The story starts off very well, cute and funny in typical Bad Kitty fashion as Bad Kitty tries to catch some birds who outwit her with great success. Bad Kitty learns that the Society of Cat Aptitude Management is so disappointed in her actions of late that she must take a test to regain her status as a cat –and here’s where the story goes sour and makes little sense. Bad Kitty, a chicken, Uncle Murray, and Chatty Kitty attend a class given by Strange Kitty on how to be a cat – which has absolutely nothing about being a cat.

Anything you did not like about this book? The story was very thin and did not really have anything to do with the traits of a cat – which could have made it much better, in my opinion.

To whom would you recommend this book? To Bad Kitty fans.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Graphic novels or juvenile fiction

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No.
