Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4.5
Genre: Animal fiction
What did you like about the book? Four chicks, Peep (Dirt), Little Boo (Sugar), Poppy and Sweet Coconut Louise (Sweetie) are on their way to visit the farm where all their relatives live. They are introduced to the cousins, hundreds of them it seems, all of their names beginning with B. Bored with this, Sugar makes a pretend model of herself and slips back to the car with the hope of eating jellybeans but instead is grabbed by a huge bird named Bugar who takes the jellybeans. The plot thickens as the four chicks try to find the mystery bird and retrieve their jellybeans. There are illustrations on almost every page, great illustrations, depicting the smart and silly chicks.
Anything you did not like about this book? No.
To whom would you recommend this book? This is a good one for those who are now reading on their own due to the large typeface and the illustrations. Also for those who like silly, droll animal stories. This is also the fourth entry into the Chicken Squad series so give to those fans. This would also be a fun read-aloud for teachers in grades K-2.
Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries
Where would you shelve it? Juvenile fiction
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Not necessarily but easy and fun.
