Rating: (1-5, 5 is a starred review) 4
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? Written in verse, this large and colorful book captures the special bond children have with a grandma. It talks about all the ways grandmas spend time with their grandchildren, from just sitting and chatting, to having special names for each other. It’s a down to earth book that talks of lots of the little things grandmas do that make them so special. The illustrations are large and the text is simple, so this book would appeal to very young children who have a short attention span.
Anything you didn’t like about it? I would have liked this book more if there were different children with their grandmothers. The child and grandmother in this book were white. I think it would appeal to more children if there were pictures of children from different races and cultures.
To whom would you recommend this book? Toddlers 1-3 years old will like this book.
Who should buy this book? Elementary school libraries
Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
