Rating: (1-5, 5 is an excellent or starred review) 4
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? This is a story of diversity, acceptance and friendship. Little Blue Penguin is born and is immediately shunned for being different. His loneliness and isolation make him dig deep within himself to find his special talent: music. His song attracts first a friend and then the respect of all the other penguins. The illustrations are expressive and show both Little Blue Penguin’s loneliness along with the barren landscape of the far north.
Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about the book, especially how Little Blue Penguin found not only himself but friends.
To whom would you recommend this book? This is recommended for children ages 4-8.
Who should buy this book? Elementary school libraries, public libraries with a children’s room
Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
