Format: Paperback

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 2

Genre:  Fantasy

What did you like about the book? Spanish translation of The Secret Spellbook. The Latina princess Elena, who lives in the same Disney TV world as Sofia the First, appoints her friend Mateo as the official magician of Avalor. Almost immediately, the evil magician Fiero enters the scene to steal the secret spellbook. Elena, Mateo and Gabe work hard to find the book before Fiero can take it. Sofia the First fans should enjoy this easy reader adventure, and readers new to the characters will easily pick up on the setting and characters, as Disney stories have a comfortingly predictable arc. This Latino princess follows the lead of all Disney princesses before her, but should please Latina readers just the same.

Anything you didn’t like about it?  Not much character development, but we don’t exactly expect much here.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Fans of Disney should enjoy this.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries where Disney collections are popular

Where would you shelve it ? Easy readers

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
