Rating: (1-5, 5 is an excellent or starred review) 4
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? This is a beauty and the beast story that is told and illustrated in a way that is not a copy of the Disney movie. For this reason, I recommend it. Because it looks nothing like the one that is commonly read, the child can understand more the true meaning of the story and not get caught up in the Hollywood theatrics of the story. The illustrations are far from showy, yet they convey the feelings of the father, daughter and beast wonderfully. The story is also slightly abridged, and there are more illustrations and less text on the pages, keeping a child’s interest in the story.
Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about the book.
To Whom Would You Recommend this book? Children ages 3-6 will enjoy the story and parents will welcome a book that is not a remake of a movie.
Who should buy this book? This would be good for pre-school libraries, kindergartens and public libraries with a children’s room.
Where would you shelve it ? Picture books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? yes
