Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 2

Genre:  Children picture book

What did you like about the book? The cautionary tale of Holland and his habit of stealing was creatively resolved in this fun book. The positive result of inspiring a young painter to recreate beauty through his art, rather than steal, rehabilitated  Holland, with a new-found sense of purpose, and a viable occupation with financial rewards. It was a charming family story!

Anything you didn’t like about it? It was hard to discern why Holland stole, and why society would force someone into the military. Parents may need to explain the historical context of this choice.

To whom would you recommend this book? Teachers, parents who explore values and teach consequences to their children.

Who should buy this book? Elementary school librarians, Primary school adjustment counselors

Where would you shelve it ? Children’s picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
