Rating: 1- 5 (5 is excellent or a Starred review) 3
Genre: Picture Book
What did you like about the book? This is a story about a duck named Muddle who doesn’t realize that his friend Mo is a goat. The simple illustrations of the two animals against a textured blue background are wonderfully expressive. The personalities of these two friends shine through the illustrations. Mo is laid back while Muddle is more manic. Muddle says things such as “You’re a funny color for a duck!” and shouts “Your wings are on your head” into Mo’s ears. The text is told completely through dialogue between Muddle and Mo, with Mo’s words printed in bold font. When Mo leads Muddle to a pen holding two goats and with a sign reading “Goat Farm,” Muddle finally gets it. This is a funny friendship story that might remind readers of the relationship between Mo Willems Elephant and Piggie.
