Format: Paperback

Rating: (1-5, 5 is a starred review) 4

Genre:  Picture book

What did you like about the book? This brightly illustrated large paperback is a rhyming story about a duck who gets stuck in the muck and how his 3 animal friends help him get free. There are lots of sound words, (slurp, squelch) and lots of raucous action as duck’s friends try to help. It is a story of teamwork and perseverance and fun. The rhyming text isn’t forced and the language is such that children will learn new vocabulary without even knowing it. There’s a funny twist at the end of the book that will delight children.

Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about the book.

To Whom Would You Recommend this book? Children ages 2-6. This is a great book for a library story hour as the illustrations are large and colorful and they rhyming text will invite children to chime in.

Who should buy this book? Libraries with children’s rooms.

Where would you shelve it ? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  yes
