Format: Board book
Rating: (1-5, 5 is a starred review) 3
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? The padded cover on this book makes it instantly inviting to young hands. It’s a comforting book of love between a parent and a child and it is written from the eyes of a bear and her cub. It is written in rhyme and the illustrations are stylized but recognizable. There are other pictures of forest animals and children can follow the bear through the forest as she compares her love of her cub to the world around her.
Anything you didn’t like about it? Although I liked the illustrations and concept of the book, the rhyme seemed forced. The words didn’t roll off my tongue as I was reading it aloud.
To Whom Would You Recommend this book? Children ages 1-3 will enjoy the book and especially the illustrations.
Who should buy this book? Families with young toddlers might use this as a bedtime story as it is soothing and peaceful. Children’s libraries and any library with a children section.
Where would you shelve it ? Picture books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? maybe
