What did you like about the book? A little dog named Sophie is welcomed into a very well-prepared family’s home. The young narrator and her parents have all of the necessities covered:”a cozy bed and blankets, bowls for food and water, a toy to sleep with and one to chew, a ball, a leash and a collar.” The family is very gentle and reassuring with the new dog and soon they are teaching her a few commands, and taking her to the neighborhood dog park. Still, Sophie does get up to some mischief in the garden and she doesn’t like baths. More tips about dogs and dog ownership are presented in italicized font on the pages. The illustrations are bright and playful and perfectly complement the text. The end pages are filled with illustrations of various dog breeds that will capture the reader right away. The book includes a bibliography titled “A Few Useful Books About Dogs” and an index. This is a perfect choice for families considering adopting a dog.
