Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? A dragon in his lair, shown at first as just a pair of eyes, wonders aloud if it should eat the animals that walk by his dark cave. Then a noisy playful little boy comes by who seems completely unafraid, and leads the dragon on a merry chase. Just as the dragon goes to gobble him up “something unexpected” happens. Dark, moody colors set the mood for the expectation that this is a dragon to be feared, but things turn out differently. The digital illustrations seem like ink and gouache and remind me of Jon Klassen’s work. A good story time choice – the suspense and slightly scary beginning give way to fun.
