a1axrdpsinl        The Queen of the Frogs – Davide Cali and Marco Soma, Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, (9780802854810), 2017

Format: Hardcover Picture book

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4.5

What did you like about the book? A pond of happy frogs – until one of them discovers a crown that has dropped into the water, puts it on her head and is hailed as Queen. The Queen takes her position very seriously making all the other frogs wait on her hand and foot. When she loses the crown, all returns to normal. The crown is discovered by a couple in love who know it as a ring. The illustrations executed in tones of frog green and pond brown are very wonderfully detailed.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No.

To whom would you recommend this book? This is much lighter than Yertle the Turtle as the Queen is very accidental and not really upset at no longer being queen. A nice depiction of just how satisfying life can be without having too much.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries and child-care centers

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Near the top.
