What did you like about the book? This unique book shows the American Civil War from both the Union and Confederate sides in detailed illustrations. It begins at the beginning in 1862 with the Battle of Fredericksburg. Actual letters from real Union and Confederate soldiers are part of the history. The everyday life of soldiers is shown. At one point, when the armies were camped on opposite sides of the Rappahannock River, they traded songs back and forth. One they both knew was Home Sweet Home.

Anything you didn’t like about it? Not a thing.

To whom would you recommend this book? This book is a nice introduction for students in grades 3 through 5.

Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries.

Where would you shelve it? Juvenile 973.7

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes.
