What did you like about the book?  An energetic bug-eyed little pup cannot seem to behave.  In first person narrative the little rascal tells us “I lick your face. I bite your leg. I nip your finger. Paw your head.”  This seems to be how he shows his love to his owner a red-haired bespectacled little boy.  The illustrations perfectly capture the dog’s energy.  Readers will laugh at the usual dog bad behavior – digging, chasing animals and even rolling in poo.  The dog also runs away a lot and will not listen to commands.  When a thunderstorm sends the dog off on the run, he is scared and becomes lost.  Luckily his owner finds him.  The dog and owner have a happy reunion: “I don’t do ‘Sit!’ I don’t do ‘Stay” But I will love you anyway.”

Anything you didn’t like about it?  No

To whom would you recommend this book?  Anyone who owns a dog will enjoy this story of a naughty pup that you cannot help loving.

Who should buy this book?  Public libraries and elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it? Picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this at the top of our “to read” piles? Yes, if you love dogs.
