What did you like about the book? This is a beautifully written and illustrated book about a lonely girl and an endangered crane that help each other to heal. Lotus is a lonely girl who, due to an illness, is unable to speak. One day she finds a crane that has been wounded by a hunter and she nurses him back to health. The story ends with the girl releasing the crane back into the wild, but the process of healing the crane has healed the girl. The illustrations of the Chinese children and the Chinese landscape are beautiful and the interaction of the crane and Lotus are endearing.
