Genre:  Biographical fiction

What did you like about the book? An imaginative biography of Antonio Barichievich, a strongman/wrestler from Croatia who emigrated to Canada in 1945. Gravel takes what little is known about his early years and gives us a zany, endearing portrait of a truly eccentric man. The simple text, creative fonts and adorable digitally drawn pictures make this huge hairy strongman into a likable funny picture book character. What a treat!

To whom would you recommend this book?  Pair this with Meghan McCarthy’s The Story of Charles Atlas, Strong Man and Pep Montserrat’s Ms. Rubenstein’s Beauty for a quirky character story time.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Easy readers

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes
