Rating: (1-5, 5 is a starred review) 4
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? Grumpy Old Man Fookwire puts up with those darn squirrels who are so smart that when the winter comes and it’s cold, they sneak into his house, warm up by his fire and finish his crossword puzzles. When spring comes and the annoying squirrels are back outside, Old Man Fookwire can get back to his peaceful painting of birds. Only when a new neighbor moves in with her bully cat do the squirrels band together to teach the bully a lesson. The illustrations are funny and capture the emotions of the squirrels perfectly.
Anything you didn’t like about it? I liked everything about the book.
To Whom Would You Recommend this book? This is a more complicated picture book with a longer story, so it would be appropriate for children ages 4-6 who have a longer attention span.
Who should buy this book? all libraries
Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? yes
