Format: Hardcover Beginning Reader
What did you like about the book? I enjoyed reminiscing and rediscovering Eloise, originally created by Kay Thompson and illustrated by Hilary Knight in the 50’s. Her independent spirit remains, though her stratified world at the Plaza Hotel is harder to imagine. The illustrations of the snowman and snow scenes still capture that exciting timeless experience of the first snow. The “Ready-to-Read” aspect will encourage new readers to discover Eloise again.
Anything you didn’t like about it? I found the elite “fur coated’ Eloise entertaining but not a positive role model for environmentally sensitive young children or economically diverse families.
To whom would you recommend this book? Grandparents that loved Eloise as a child.
Who should buy this book? “Ready to Read” children and their parents
Where would you shelve it ? “Ready to Read” sections
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
