What did you like about the book? Kate and Lucie are best friends who love dogs. They can’t own dogs … but they can turn into dogs! By virtue of a magical dog bone charm necklace, the friends turn into dogs by giving each other a high-five, and with a “woofa-woof” they become dogs. The friends help the owners of a new hot dog shop search for their lost dachshunds Ketchup and Mustard, and have various other adventures that require turning back and forth from girls to dogs. A lighthearted early chapter book with cute black and white illustrations. Being safe with dogs is incorporated into the story, and “bonus materials” at the end include jokes, facts and stories about dachshunds. It’s not necessary to have read other books in the series to appreciate the story.

To whom would you recommend this book?  This short early chapter book is along the lines of Ivy and Bean and Heidi Heckelbeck. Hand this to dog-loving kids who like silliness and magic.

Who should buy this book? Elementary and public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Fiction

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? No
