What did you like about the book? Everything good happens on a Thursday for Annie, right down to being born on a Thursday to getting married on a Thursday and to having each of her two sons born on a Thursday. Annie is a cook who is famous for her Poke salad. She has a wonderful life creating delicious food in her restaurant with her husband Mario, until he dies and she is left alone. Things fall apart and it isn’t until a little cat, who shows up on a Thursday, comes into her life. From there, Thursday, her cat, helps Annie rediscover the joys of life. An unfortunate accident in the kitchen involving Thursday helps Annie become a famous chef with her “ugly Pasta.” This detailed story is accompanied by even more detailed illustrations. The message of how animals can bring joy into someone’s life comes across loud and clear in this book.
Anything you didn’t like about it? It was very sad when the love of her life died, and that might be a hard thing for young children to see, especially young children who have grandparents helping to raise them.
To Whom Would You Recommend this book? Because of the detailed story and the death of Annie’s husband, this would be appropriate for older children, ages 4-7.
