Rating: (1-5 5 is a starred review) 3
Genre: Picture book
What did you like about the book? The never-ending story of a big sister feeling jealous when a new baby comes into the picture. It’s even worse when it’s her birthday and everyone looks at him instead of her. What makes this story stand out from all the others is how the big sister spins a fantastical story about a squid, who is her baby brother. Her fantasies go on and on until her baby brother cries and she decides to tell him the story.
Anything you didn’t like about it? When the little girl tells her story, the words are written in whirls and spirals. It’s difficult to read. Though it is interesting visually, it’s not a book that I would want to read over and over.
To Whom Would You Recommend this book? This book is recommended for children ages 3-8. It’s also a great book to be read to a child who is having difficulty accepting a new sibling.
Who should buy this book? all libraries
Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books
Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? yes
