51h8kfym-l Terror at Bottle Creek – Watt Key, Farrar Straus Giroux, (9780374374303), 2016

Format: Hardcover

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4.5

Genre: Adventure/Mystery

What did you like about the book? Thirteen-year-old Cort, his friend Liza and her younger sister Francie are all alone when the hurricane comes. There are no adults for help or guidance when Francie disappears with Catfish, Cort’s dog. The dog has returned to Cort’s houseboat with Francie; the houseboat is free in the hurricane with the four of them on board. They head to the Mounds, old Indian grounds that are now a refuge for tons of poisonous snakes, wild hogs, other animals and a bear. The adventure is slow in building but really builds! Very satisfying with a great cast of characters.

Anything you didn’t like about it? Not a thing.

To whom would you recommend this book? Recommend this one to kids who like adventure and mystery, to fans of Gary Paulsen and Cynthia DeFelice.

Who should buy this book? Public, elementary and middleschool libraries

Where would you shelve it? Juvenile/YA fiction

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Very near.
