What did you like about the book?  Everyone loves Cupcake!  Coffee loves her, Cake loves her, Brownies and Angel Food Cake loves her.  There are a few treats, however, that aren’t so in love with Cupcake.  They don’t like that she’s so perfect! And Cupcake wants to be loved by all so she works hard at her appearance to be perfect.  A true friend, Fortune Cookie, gives her some advice: Be true and be you.  So she tells everyone that she hates birthday parties and the frosting on her isn’t the real color! After this, some of the other pastries reveal that they aren’t so perfect either- this leads to everyone being much better friends.  All in all, this is a good story on the importance of not trying too hard to be perfect.  If you are true to yourself, people will love you even more.  It also teaches us that appearances aren’t everything.

Anything you didn’t like about it? nothing

To whom would you recommend this book?  This is a good book to teach the importance of being true to ones self and not to rely on image so much.  A great read-a-like is DiPucchio’s other book “Everyone Loves Bacon.”

Who should buy this book?  children’s libraries and elementary schools

Where would you shelve it?  juvenile picture books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? no
