Format: Hardcover

Rating: (1-5 5 is a starred review)  4

Genre:  Picture book

What did you like about the book? This oversized hardcover is the special 10th anniversary edition of this classic. The pictures are huge and the book highlights the drawings of Eric Carle and the rhyming text of Bill Martin. Included in this anniversary edition is a cd with the story read by Gwyneth Paltrow. Each featured animal is drawn on 2 pages, so their size is dramatic. I especially liked the language that was used in the book. Children will become familiar with a variety of vocabulary including strutting, sliding, digging and hooting.

Anything you didn’t like about it? Because the audience for this book is ages 0-2, I think it would hold up better as a board book.

To Whom Would You Recommend this book? Children who love the Brown Bear book will love this one. The pictures are also large enough that it could be read at a story time in the library for very young children.

Who should buy this book?  all libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  yes
