Format: Board book

Rating: (1-5, 5 is a starred review)  2

Genre:  Picture book

What did you like about the book? This is a scratch and sniff board book that follows Llama Llama from morning until night. Children can scratch and sniff the different foods that Llama Llama eats during the day, from orange juice in the morning to an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top for dessert after dinner. The illustrations show her eating breakfast, going to school and going shopping with her mom. It is a simple book about food and one that combines a simple rhyming text with clear illustrations.

Anything you didn’t like about it? The scratch and sniff part of the book didn’t really work. The smells were very faint and even after scratching  a lot, the smells remained weak. If a library buys this book, the smell will wear off immediately.

To Whom Would You Recommend this book? Very young toddlers will like to see the foods they are familiar with in a book. Parents will have to initially scratch the book to help the child find the part of the book to scratch. It wasn’t immediately obvious which part of the picture needed scratching.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  no
