Format: Hardcover

Rating: (1-5 5 is a starred review)  4

Genre:  Picture book

What did you like about the book? This very large picture book is a special 50th Anniversary edition with a CD of the story read by Gwynth Paltrow. The book is supersized and this highlights the illustrations nicely. And to make the illustrations even larger, they take up 2 pages each. It is a classic that young children will love hearing over and over.

Anything you didn’t like about it? Because the target audience is for very young children, I’m afraid that the pages will be torn with lots of use. I think this book works much better as a board book just because the audience is so young.

To whom would you recommend this book: The book is recommended for children ages 0 and up.

Who should buy this book? Public and Elementary school libraries

Where would you shelve it ? Children’s Books

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  Yes, this is a nice edition and the cd is also a nice addition.

Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City and State: Sandra Pacheco, ESL teacher, Washington, D.C.
