Format: hardcover fiction

Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5

Genre:  realistic fiction

What did you like about the book? Bone Sparrow is heartbreaking and also contains one of the most beautiful friendships I have seen in literature. Set in Australia in a refugee detention center, the book is unsparingly honest about the horrible conditions. Subhi’s life is horrible and yet he finds beauty in small things. Jimmie lives just outside the detention center; her life is also filled with sadness and loss. The two meet, become friends and change each others’ lives forever.

Anything you didn’t like about it? No

To whom would you recommend this book?  Students who like to read about other cultures and who like to learn about difficulties that others face will love this book.

Who should buy this book? all middle and high school libraries should have this book in their collection

Where would you shelve it ? Realistic Fiction

Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes — it’s amazing
