Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5
What did you like about the book? This is a non-fiction book about polar bears but it is done in a picture book format being told by a little girl reading a book about polar bears. So it could easily be read as a picture book. Beautifully illustrated, it is an excellent introduction to polar bears and their world. An author’s note at the beginning tells us of the peril that polar bears face today due to climate change. The lightness of the tone and the sweetness of the little girl’s world interacting with the polar bear’s world make this a very approachable subject.
Anything you didn’t like about it? Not a thing!
To whom would you recommend this book? This is a part of a series of books by Jenni Desmond, the first being about Blue Whales and the next one to be about elephants. They represent an excellent, even essential, contribution to the plight of so many of the world’s animals.
Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries
Where would you shelve it? Non-fiction Dewey 599.786
Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Very close to.
