Review:

The Breakfast Bunch kids are off to summer camp—and so is Lunch Lady, of course! And it’s a good thing they’ll all be there, too, as there’s a swamp monster on the loose, bent on destroying all the fun camp activities. The kids’ investigation, Lunch Lady’s superhero skills, and sidekick Betty’s forensic detective work will foil this monster once and for all.

For kids already invested in the Lunch Lady series, this is another adventure in the same line. Kids unfamiliar with the series may have difficultly sorting out who the characters are, and if the focus of the book is the Breakfast Bunch or the superhero Lunch Lady, but the easy humor and drama will engage them regardless.

The art is presented in strong black-and-white line art overlaid with yellow (similar to the use of pink in Random House’s Babymouse books), and the large, clear lettering is easy to read. Young readers looking for Babymouse read-alikes won’t be disappointed in the Lunch Lady series.
