Filbert the Good Little Fiend by Hiawyn Oram and Jimmy Liao,

Filbert the Good Little Fiend – Hiawyn Oram and Jimmy Liao, Candlewick, 2013.

Format: Picture book

 Rating: 2.5

What did you like about the book?  This is the typical story of the wayward monster, one who is good instead of bad like he is supposed to be.  The illustrations are cheerful, colorful and entertaining.  For children unfamiliar with the story line, this could be a good choice demonstrating individuality and friendship.

What didn’t you like about the book? There’s nothing new or unique here.

To whom would you recommend this book?  Tedd Arnold’s Huggly books are better fun as monster stories.

Who should buy this book? Public libraries and day-care centers

Where would you shelve it and why? Picture books

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  No.

Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City: Katrina Yurenka, Gardner High School

Date of review: 7/14/2013.
