Cross My Heart, Sasha Gould

Cross My Heart, Sasha Gould, Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 2012

Format: Ficiton

Rating: 3

Genre: Historical Fiction/Mystery

What did you like about the book? I really loved the author’s style of writing.  She writes flowing descriptive paragraphs of the setting and scenes, but it is just the right amount of detail so as not to be too much.  The plot of the story is intriguing and unique. The main character is also well developed and likeable.

What didn’t you like about the book? I really didn’t like that it took 80 pages to get to the gist of the story.  The plot describes this secret society of women that Laura, the main character joins, but we don’t learn anything about it until we are 1/3 of the way into the book.  This fact may cause some teens to put the book aside and pick up something with more action before they get to the murder and mayhem.

To whom would you recommend this book? I would recommend this book to teen girls who like historical fiction and stories about strong women.

Who should buy this book? Public Libraries

Where would you shelve it and why? Teen Fiction

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles?  Not necessary.
